We arrived in Holland just after the Queen’s birthday, a national holiday marked by massive celebrations.  Amsterdam seemed quiet and hung-over in the aftermath of the parties.

5 to 8 May

“I say, I’ve lost my leg.”

This exchange, which allegedly took place between Lord Wellington and the recently de-legged Colonel Uxbridge, has become a favorite refrain among our little group.  The language may have been a bit stronger than propriety would dictate, but such an outburst could be excused under the circumstances.  The gentlemen were, after all, engaged in a battle that was recognized right away as one of the decisive moments in European history. Free WiFi is nowhere to be found around here, which explains our tardiness in posting an initial update to the blog.  We finally broke down and shelled out some Euros to use the network here at the Hotel Ibis in lovely Dinant, Belgium.  Our other excuse is that we’ve been having way too much fun doing stuff and haven’t taken a moment to sit down and write about it.

So for now, we’re posting a photo.  We caught a glimpse of Eyjafjalljökull in action as we were on our way to Amsterdam.  This connection is acting funky, so the other pix will have to wait.
